You may have heard of Australian Artist – John Lovett – perhaps via the Australian Artist or International Artist magazines, or via John’s website (John Lovett), or from the various art books, DVDs, and lessons he has produced throughout his painting career.  How would I describe John’s painting style?  Well, it’s watercolour/mixed media with a focus on atmosphere and tonal range rather than re-producing a photographic replica!  John uses a combination of watercolour, gouache, gesso, charcoal pencil, inktense pencil, pen and ink, and the occasional bit of acrylic to build up his paintings to produce a painting that he is happy with.

Recently I arranged a week of workshops with John on behalf of the Watercolour Society of WA, and last week the organising, phone calls, emails and advertising came to fruition.  I’m sure everyone who attended went home with a whole lot of new painting knowledge, and renewed enthusiasm for future paintings.  Many thanks to John’s wife Dianne, who manages John’s business and who was a delight to get to know.  Dianne’s input and communication certainly helped the workshops run smoothly.

John is a very talented, humble, and generous art teacher, as well as an amazing artist, and I highly recommend his workshops.  If you ever get the chance to attend a John Lovett workshop or painting holiday, then get in quick as he is very popular.  Thanks, John, for a very informative and creative week!
